One Sixth

We'll come back to animal pictures when we get a chance, but now it's important to get caught up with current events. We left Quest, went wandering around South Africa, Zambia and Botswana for a while, and are now back in Cape Town. Beautiful clear day, so the cloud that often sits on Table Mountain hadn't formed in the morning, and we got to go up. 1000 meter cable car ride, with beautiful views of the city and bay.

Travel is fun and exciting, of course, but it also can be very educational at times. This is a brief view of the other side of Cape Town from our hotel. Our room aboard Quest was bigger than some of these shanties, and had fewer residents. Next time anyone complains about living conditions, they need to come here.

After Table Mountain we went to Stellenbosch, the wine district of South Africa. Tasting was obviously not on our itinerary, but some of the gardens were beautiful. This one grew every type of fruit and vegetable known to man that will grow here, in a stunning multi-acre spread. Maintenance is provided by 16 full-time gardeners and roughly 100 other staff.

And finally, the title of this post. As of today, February 10 2012, Margie and Phil have been married for 1/6 of a century! This is a special wedding cup that allows both the bride and groom to drink simultaneously from the same cup. Quite a trick when laughing!
