Kuoto Bolders

A bunch of large, round, rocks. Don’t know how they were formed, how they got here, or much
of anything else. No signs indicated their presence, a short walk along the beach at the end of a
gravel road. They are just there. And they fascinated us.

We never would have found them, or a lot of the other neat things we’ve seen, were it not for the guide book mentioned earlier. “NZ Frenzy” by Scott Cook. It totally ignores all the places mentioned in all the other guide books, and tells you about all the uncrowded beauties elsewhere on this beautiful island. Absolutely the best guide book we’ve ever seen, and the only we’ve consistently referred to on this trip.

By the weirdest of coincidences, we met Scott a few days ago. He’s from Oregon, and is over
here researching the next edition of “NZ Frenzy” and trying to market it. Had a lovely evening
discussing his book, tourists of various types, and this beautiful country. Great guy, and if any
one is looking for scenic places off the beaten track in New Zealand, or looking for anything in
the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, get his books.
