Amahuaca tribe

We visited a local Amahuaca village that has an agreement with the Explorama company. Those that want to demonstrate native techniques to tourists are paid for their time and effort, those that don't aren't, and only a small portion of the village is open to tourists. So some can benefit from eco-tourism, while others can remain isolated and not have their homes violated.

We were greeted with a welcome dance, and encouraged to join. Then one of the elders demonstrated the making and use of a blow-gun, and discussed some of the plants used in making the poison for the darts. We both tried the blow-gun, with surprising success for a relatively short distance. Much easier than throwing a ball!
