South

We are roughly as far south as James Bay in the Hudson Bay in Canada is north. And the weather is starting to show the same. Today was cold, rainy, and windy with an occasional snow flurry. Saw a pretty rainbow just before dinner, so hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow, as we’re scheduled to leave the ship and fly to Antarctica for the day. Finally put the shorts away for the rest of the year, but the Jacuzzi’s are still operating so the bathing suits are kept handy. Sunset tonight is 10:10, and it’s scheduled to rise at 5:19 in the morning. 17 hours of daylight, even when cloudy, is pretty nice!

The last couple of sea days have been fun and relaxing. Phil has kept up Spanish lessons, with the rest of our time been split between sleep, reading, interesting lectures on local flora, fauna, geology and glaciology, tea, and of course eating. The Christmas luncheon buffet was impossible to capture with only a few photos, but we really liked this one of a little tiny corner of one of the many dessert tables.

The entire ship has been decorated with several tons of decorations. Hundreds of huge poinsettia plants, enough trees to keep an army of squirrels happy, wreaths everywhere there was wall space, and a few thousand other miscellaneous items scattered about.

Wow! What type aircraft to Antarctica?

Looking forward to all the pix, particularly the lions and wildebeest.
